The motherboard on my laptop fried. Around how much should I pay to get the files off of my hard drive?

Have you tried removing the HDD from the laptop and then buying a USB drive for it. This way you can retrieve all your files and have a portable HDD. Otherwise it should cost $50 max to copy the files.
