EMF detection? Getting rid of excess EMF?

Okay I asked a question yesterday about can your house make you depressed? I don't mean super need medication depressed, just the blahs. Anyway one person suggested that High EMF from appliances or paranormal could be the trouble. How do you detect it and how do you get rid of it or reduce it? I live near high tension power lines (in the suburbs, but one of the power grid corridors is behind my back yard) which probably emits a lot of EMF. So I'm just curious now. Thanks.
